Problem: Move mainframe-based system with over 2 million LOC holding NIMA digital products on to a client-server environment.
Solution: Conduct a Heritage Analysis and use re-engineering techniques to design system. Use COTS software and ERwin database modeling tools to reduce costs and reduce time to prototype and develop the system. Simplify interfaces, interim steps, and input/output. Developed the client-server system using a Sybase server and client-server development tools.
Result: Database was the first NIMA-compliant metadata database.
